standing room only

I haven’t had the opportunity to attend a Rapids game this season, and with the team in town playing Seattle this evening, it seemed like a fine idea to head over to DSG Park and watch some exciting MLS action.

Unfortunately for Adam and I, there were not a pair of side-by-side seats available when we walked up 20 minutes prior to gametime. We could have gotten standing room only tickets, but Adam didn’t want to stand for the whole game.

Even better, as I watch this game on TV now, I see a ton of empty seats. The weather may not be perfect, but it’s really a relatively nice evening.

Hooray Rapids!

lcd frustrationsystem

I’m trying to download the new LCD Soundsystem album, released this week.

It’s not easy — unless you have iTunes or Windows Media Player to organize your music collection. Sadly, I use neither. Amazon seems to be the only place to purchase the mp3 format of the album, and they require a download which hooks into either iTunes or WMP for album purchases.

I guess I’ll just order the CD??? I mean… what the fuck? I thought we were in the modern area of high-tech living.

results

From last Saturday — Adam and I both won our point sparring divisions, and we both got smoked in our continuous sparring divisions. About what I expected, we both don’t train enough in the continuous, which is basically just boxing sprinkled with some kicking here and there.

I was very proud of Adam for placing 4th in forms, after not doing well in the first tourney in March. His hard work and practice paid off.

This weekend: New Orleans with Ashley. I’m pumped — I think we both are. Whoop.

coast to coast

Well, it’s tournament day! Second of five (i think) this year.

This time, I’m entering the heavyweight division for continuous sparring, because there were zero competitors in my 150-175 lb weight class in the last event. Should be interesting — I don’t think it’s that big of a deal, since I routinely go up against bigger guys while training.

The best part about today, was waking up exactly at 6:40am. Which is when my alarm is set during the week for when Adam is here. Pretty great. I tried going back to sleep but after 30 minutes, just decided to get out of bed. I suppose it’s not that bad, but I only got about six hours of sleep last night.

Injuries right now are pretty limited. My bruised heel is about 75%, I can stretch considerably better on that leg than just a couple weeks ago. The right elbow hurts considerably at times, but isn’t really an issue. The brace I’ve been wearing seems to help some during training. A huge blister on my right big toe has been a nuisance for over a week now, but, it’s starting to heal, and can be taped easily enough.

Adam today should be interesting, as well. Never mind that he and his mother decided last weekend was a good time for him to get earrings. He was wearing them during class on Tuesday, got kicked near the head area, and apparently, “got his bell rung” — not sure how the earrings factored in, but, whatever. I would have assumed that he could have known better to take them out during such an endeavor, but again …. whatever.

He took them out during Thursday’s class, and could only get one back in after class. His mother was not happy. I do not give a flying fuck about it, because, that seems like a fine alternative to getting your lower earlobe torn/ripped off.

may day!

Ah, May. Easily the best time of year. Not too warm, rarely does it get disturbingly cold. Everything turns green.

I decided it was time to start logging an “injury report” of sorts, of whatever I do to myself from martial arts training. Seems like something I’d like to log and reflect back upon at a future date.

So, today I have:

Bruised heel — suffered around April 15. Mostly impacts only stretching, but is still painful when walking/running.

Right elbow — ongoing for months. Going to try wearing a brace on it today, but I don’t know that’ll help any. Anytime it gets hit during sparring, it hurts pretty good.

Left elbow — this used to be my problem elbow, but it’s mostly OK these days. Still gets sore after long workouts.

Upper back — was pretty sore earlier this week. Nearly 100% today

Tournament in two weeks. Adam is pretty excited about it, should be fun.
