February 2010

one last hurrah here in Feb

Well, it’s been a pretty crazy month, this February. Funny that I’ve only managed to make one post here in the last 28 days, and now two including this effort.

This past week was interesting. Well, not really, but to me it’s adapting to some changes.

For one, Adam is now with me alternating weeks, instead of two or three nights per week. I think it’s a great situation, since it gives me a full week to see him and help him with school, and then gives me a week “off” to do whatever. Which usually would mean hanging out with Laura. But, she’s been working a full-time schedule recently, and has very little free time. And oh yeah, works the graveyard shift, so is sleeping during the day.

This weekend we spent a fair amount of time together, all things considered. And it was awesome, of course.

Tonight, we went to see The Crazies, which was highly entertaining. A superbly executed remake of the 1973 film, it was both refreshing and suspenseful.

Saturday night, we ate at Sabor Latino, a little restaurant just a couple blocks from where I live, and it was wonderful. Probably the freshest-tasting Mexican dish I’ve had in a while.

But, the rest of the week, when I’m not working, I have it all to myself. Two nights a week I’ll attend karate — which has been quite grueling of late. The other days, I sit around and do nothing. Listen to music, read a little (not as much as I should be), play video games. Nothing really meaningful, but definitely mindless. I’m not sure if it’s good for me, but it’s what I’m doing and it’s not a completely terrible way to go about doing things.

Anyway, it’s something new for me. We’ll see how it goes.

a little relaxation

Been a pretty uneventful week, which is nice.

Christine visited over the weekend and, as usual, is always excellent company. Laura was supposed to hang out for most of Saturday before heading to work, but, was recovering from a cold and slept the day so she could make it to work that evening.

We decided to hit up the DU basketball game Saturday afternoon. We were ready to pay whatever to sit courtside (usually $20 per), but some guy was handing out unwanted tickets near the ticket window. We paid nothing and sat in one of the corners, not horrible seating for the price.

Sunday brings the Super Bowl. I had a few exciting prop bets on the game, and won a little bit out of it all. Very annoying that Drew Brees didn’t thank Jesus for winning. Or God. Or any higher power.

This week was the first week back for Lisa, as she returned from the three-month work excursion in Illinois. So, Adam wasn’t here for the first time in a while, and hasn’t been all week. We’re switching to alternating weeks for Adam as well, a change from him being here 2-3 days a week. I look forward to the change.

It’ll be nice when Laura returns from Vegas, which is where she is for most of this week, hanging out with co-workers. I miss her quite a bit! I look forward to taking her out to dinner this weekend, and catching movies. Been a while since I’ve had that option, let’s hope she has a friendly work schedule.

Speaking of movies, I really liked 3-Iron. Very interesting Korean film about a guy who sneaks into peoples’ houses when they are away on vacation.
