Since I love baseball, I find it pretty cool there’s finally an MLB channel on the tube. It’s pretty easy to run across old NFL, or NBA highlights. But you just don’t see classic MLB games anywhere.
Well, I’m tuned in and watching some 1990 World Series. Not a particularly great series, a Reds sweep in four games over the A’s.
Thanks to an ad, I see they are airing a bunch of World Series shows over the weekend. And up next! Some show called “Hot Stove” which I’m looking forward to, because there are no ESPN shows in the offseason (that I know of), and nobody else is going to cover baseball in the winter.
Man, Jose Rijo was a fucking beast in 1990.

Tuesday night, Laura and myself wandered to the Ogden to take in some Tim and Eric’s Awesome Show Great Job!, which is touring in support of the forthcoming fourth season.
I didn’t know what to expect, and went in with pretty low expectations. I really like the show, even though I’ve only seen about half of the episodes from the first three seasons.
Promptly at 8pm, their DJ/sound guy (Doug Pound… get it?) opens with some pretty humorous sound bits and samples and whatnot. Including a bit where he had the crowd retorting with “Fuck that” in response to something “good”:
“Coors light?”
“FUCK THAT!”
Tim and Eric started about 30 minutes after DJ Doug Pound, and for the most part, it was quite entertaining and largely funny.
A few skits were disappointing. Beaver Boys just wasn’t funny, and that’s one of my favorites on the TV version. Spagett also, just not that great in the way they presented it, but is definitely funny on the tube.
I really did like seeing the other regulars on the show. James Quall and David Liebe Hart both gave great performances.

I use “creditmongers” as I don’t know what to call people who are trying to make a buck off of credit reports.
Recently I saw a TV ad, citing the poor economy as a reason to get your credit report.
A spam e-mail today with the subject “The Economy Is Out of Control Take Control Today.”
If anyone has a reason as to how the economy correlates to the importance of knowing your credit score, please drop me a line.
Until then, fuck them.

“All those steps we took in the aftermath of 9/11, have had, I think, a remarkable impact, and that there has not been another mass casualty attack on the United States since 9/11. That’s a great achievement.”
I realize that there’s nothing new in saying our leaders are complete fucking morons, but I can’t ignore this gem.
Great achievement, Dicky. No mass casualty attacks in 7.5 years. I hope you and your family get to live in luxury for the rest of their lives.

The Spirit gets shit on by nearly every review I’ve seen. It’s been trashed on the Razzie forums. I thought it was an entertaining movie. Not bad.
Then there’s this Benjamin Button film. I personally haven’t spent any time reading reviews on this, but Laura has, and she says it’s adored by the critics, and will probably at least get some Oscar nominations.
And I thought Button was horrible. No surprise, as the screenplay was written by the same guy who gave us Forrest Gump. Not to mention, it even felt like Forrest Gump.
Later on Sunday, we watched Lady Vengeance at home. A much better option, I couldn’t help but wonder why it is we spend three hours and $16 at a movie theater when we get home and spend 2 hours watching great cinema as part of the $16 monthly fee from Netflix.
Anyways, Lady Vengeance is one of the better movies I’ve seen in the past year. It’s not new (2005), and is actually the second part of a trilogy, of which I have not seen yet. It’s visually fun, it’s gross, it’s not for the kids. It’s great.
