Well, it’s been 26 years — longer than I’ve even been a Brewers fan — but, it finally happened. The Brewers made the playoffs today.

How am I a Brewers fan, anyways? It all started when I was a kid at the age of 10 or 11, and I loved looking at box scores in the newspaper. I decided to pick a favorite team, since there wasn’t a MLB team in Nebraska. I could have picked KC, but, didn’t.
I selected the Brewers based solely on the names found in the starting lineup. Molitor. Yount. Gantner. Spiers. Higuera.
So after about 20 years of futility, they finally fucking made it.
But it wasn’t without a total roller coaster of a season.
Slow start in April and most of May. June was glorious. Most of July was great, until the Cubs rolled into Milwaukee and swept four games. August was outstanding, but September was atrocious up until the final week.
On Sept 21, the Brewers were 2.5 games behind the Mets for the Wild Card lead.
Going into the final series on Friday, the Brewers were tied with the Mets.
Thankfully the Mets choked big time, and the Brewers won two out of three from the Cubs to make the playoffs for the first time since 1982.
I have a fair amount of friends who are huge Mets fans, and I don’t feel sorry for them at all. I’ve gone my whole life without seeing the brew-crew make it in, and here they are. I still don’t believe it.
It was an excruciating viewing experience at a sports bar this afternoon watching both games simultaneously. The Brewers trailed most of today’s game 1-0, until the 7th when a bases-loaded walk by Craig Counsell tied the game.
In the 8th, Ryan Braun hit a 2-run homer. CC Sabathia, who has been unbelievable, went nine innings and didn’t give up an earned run. He gets my vote for NL MVP, but he won’t win it.
Then I had to watch the end of the Mets game. They had threats in both the 8th and 9th innings, but it ended when Ryan Church drove a deep ball to right — but it was caught on the warning track.
How far can this team go? Who knows. I was insane enough to book a flight to Milwaukee for the first playoff series back in the early part of September, and it looked like a horrible idea about a week ago. But, I’m going and I even was able to find reasonable tickets on StubHub.
Holy Fucking Shit.
