Not only is this a movie that I recently watched, but it’s also something I’ve been tackling recently in an effort to not feeling exhausted most days.
The Science of Sleep is fun, quirky and abstract. The purposeful disjointedness works in most spots.
I’m not sure if that move got me thinking about my own sleep behavior, but I have been for the last couple weeks. My goal is to not wake up to an alarm clock and instead wake up naturally. Some reading I’ve done indicates this is one way to not be tired all day long.
How to attain this lofty goal? One key step is to wake up and get out of bed when one first wakes up in the morning.
For example, almost every morning, I awaken around 6:30 or 7, but knowing that I can squeeze in another hour or so of sleep, I stay in bed. Around 7:30, my alarm clock jolts me and I’m forced out. The result is, I’m groggy all day.
Instead of this, I need to start getting up when my body tells me to, which is what happened this morning at 7:55. After going to bed last night around 2am, that’s a solid six hours of sleep, and right now, I’m feeling great at 8:35am.
I’m going to try and do this for a few weeks to see how it goes.
